As the founder and president of Deeb Petrakis Blum & Murphy, Jonathan M. Petrakis brings two and a half decades of transactional and litigation experience to his clients. He has established long-term relationships with his clients, who repeatedly turn to him for a resolution to their legal needs because of his blend of experience and dedication to their service.
Mr. Petrakis is head of the firm’s Lender Services group, leading a team of attorneys focused on representation of banks and other lenders. His team pursues recovery of commercial loans in actions against defaulting borrowers and guarantors, including bankruptcy litigation, creditor’s rights litigation outside of bankruptcy, and the documentation of forbearance agreements, debt restructure agreements, and Debtor In Possession financing. He and his team also actively represent lenders in the documentation of commercial loans, such as mortgage, asset-based and construction loans, and the sale of loan portfolios.
Mr. Petrakis also routinely counsels clients with respect to the negotiation and preparation of commercial real estate agreements of sale and leases, employment agreements and buy/sell agreements, among other contracts that businesses and entrepreneurs regularly encounter. In doing so, Mr. Petrakis has handled work as varied as the relocation of a national retail optical company from Texas to New Jersey, the merger of privately held businesses, the preparation of clients’ employee handbooks and policies, and the financing of businesses from golf courses to software companies.
Mr. Petrakis spent the first 10 years of his practice exclusively as a litigator, and remains actively involved in representing clients in claims arising from alleged violation of employment laws, breach of contract and other business torts.
